Gyokuro is grown in the shade under black covers for about 3 weeks prior to harvest. This creates stress on the tea plant as it tries to draw energy from the sun. The stress on the leaves creates high levels of l-Theanine (antioxidant that reduces stress and anxiety).

Do not use boiling water (your tea will suffer, and so will we!) Be very careful on the timing and quantities of this tea. It's very easy to overdo this one.
Keep tightly sealed in a dry, cool place.
Mug (8oz water): 1 level tsp • 175º • Steep for 1:10 min.
Teapot (8oz water): 2 level tsp • 175º • Steep for 30 seconds - 1 min depending on preference.
Second and Third Infusions can be enjoyed at the same temperature and about 1 min each.
Covered teapots retain more heat, therefore the Teapot method requires less time for steeping.
Add more tea to your taste to make the tea richer or stronger, rather than leaving the tea to steep longer than directed.
