Wellness goals. We all have them. Once January hits after an intense Holiday season, we all commit to making a change.
We need a relief from all of the intensity we felt. Visiting friends and loved ones, gift giving, party planning, and all that goes along with December can take it's toll on our bodies and minds.
There's a few easy things you can do to up your wellness quotient this month without going on a crazy diet.
At Field to Cup, we practice mindfulness and deep breathing throughout the day to keep our energy tanks fueled up and ready to conquer the next task. We also test a LOT of tea throughout the day, so we're given the opportunity to take a moment and reflect on what we're doing. This moment of reflection is available to you every time you make a cup of tea.
How you ask? The simple task of reading the preparation instructions for each tea, and being aware of the time you're taking to steep the tea is a break from what you're currently doing. It seems simple enough, but this is an opportunity for you to be present in the moment and not oversteep your tea!
If you're doing 5 different things, running around, you'll most likely oversteep your tea (we do this often, nothing to be ashamed of) and have to redo it. Giving yourself the time and space to prepare a cup or pot of tea properly means that your body and mind are connected. We often take this time to reflect on our goals for the week or even check in with how we're feeling about our accomplishments that day.
Trust us, it feels good to take this time for yourself! As an extra bonus, maybe you take the time to practice 4-7-8 breathing (you can watch how to do it here).
Another great way to up your wellness quotient is to improve your sleep routine. Yes, we're all guilty of staring at our phones moments before our heads hit the pillow. Or maybe even while we're in bed. Turning off and tuning out is increasingly difficult when we crave watching another cat or puppy video after a long or stressful day.
The sad fact is that staring at a screen minutes before sleep is actually disrupting our ability to sleep properly. Ariana Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post, addressed a room full of women, telling them "we're going to literally sleep our way to the top". (You can watch the full TED video here). Sleep is so crucial to our success and productivity.
Some of us suffer from mild sleep disruption, while others suffer from mild to moderate insomnia as part of a nasty habit cycle. For this reason, we chose Wellness Tea Good Night as part of our January box.
